Hi, my name is Natalie Buchanan, I am 27 years old. I originally hail from Lacombe Alberta. Currently I reside in Etobicoke, Ontario. I have EB Simplex and have recently set off on an outdoor journey with my partner Steve Gibb to raise awareness for EB and DEBRA Canada.
On August 31, Steve and I left my hometown of Lacombe, AB. We are cycling from Alberta to Ontario… a 3000 KM journey. Why? To show others that I am so excited to do my part to raise awareness and prove that I don’t have to hold myself back because of my EB. I would be overjoyed if I could inspire even one other person to do the same.
It’s hard watching from the sidelines and I’m sure a lot of other EB patients feel the same way…I want to push myself and inspire others to go beyond what they think is possible and find a way to get in the action to live life to the fullest.
You can follow our journey on Instagram with the handle @cyclingformore. And we have also set up a fundraising page in support of DEBRA Canada programs and services:
We will post regular updates on Instagram and would be thrilled if you would follow us on our outdoor adventure and EB awareness initiative.
This adventure may take us a bit longer, and we will have to pace ourselves depending on how my skin (specifically my feet) are coping/holding up with the motion and potential friction from the long days of pedaling… but I want to prove that EB does not ALWAYS have to stop a person from living their life and going on an adventure.
